One of the less talked about Larian missteps with Wyll’s romance is how much of it is gate-kept by Karlach’s fate.

You want to adopt a kid with Wyll? Only available in the Grand Duke ending, which is only achieved if Wyll doesn’t go to Avernus with Karlach (and a romanced Tav can’t go with Karlach either).

You want to see any of his special end-of-game scenes, where you discuss the future? They get overridden by the cutscene of the three of you arriving in Avernus.

No other romance option has this issue. You can send Wyll and Karlach on their merry way to Avernus and still have a nice scene with your romance option at the end of the game. It’s only Wyll’s romance that’s impacted this way. His already limited content is locked behind letting a fan-favorite character either die or become a mindflayer.

No wonder only 600 people adopted a kid with Wyll.
